A multicenter, outpatient, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel-group trial was conducted over 16 weeks to evaluate the safety and efficacy of ORACEA Capsules. A total of 251 rosacea patients (≥18 years of age with 10 to 40 papules and pustules and ≤2 nodules, plus an IGA score of 2 to 4) participated.
Many subjects taking ORACEA Capsules in clinical trials started to see improvements (reduction in inflammatory lesions) in as little as 3 weeks-and improvements continued through the full 16-week course of study.
ORACEA Capsules are an oral medication, so they treat inflammation below your skin-the true cause of rosacea-to reduce the bumps and blemishes you see developing on the surface.
The active ingredient in ORACEA Capsules is doxycycline, but unlike traditional antibiotic doses of doxycycline, the low-dose formulation of ORACEA Capsules does not work by killing bacteria; instead it reduces the bumps and blemishes of rosacea because of its anti-inflammatory properties. That's important because rosacea is a chronic inflammatory skin condition-not a bacterial infection. In clinical studies, ORACEA Capsules have not been shown to contribute to antibiotic resistance.
In clinical studies, side effects of ORACEA Capsules were mild to moderate. And in a 16-week study comparing the effects of ORACEA Capsules to the antibiotic doxycycline, subjects taking ORACEA Capsules had a lower incidence of unwanted gastrointestinal side effects than with doxycycline 100 mg (5% vs 26%).
